The Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) has published updated rules for English apprenticeship funding. The new rules, which explicitly reflect the transition from frameworks to standards, will apply to all apprenticeship programmes starting on or after August 1st 2020.
The rules also cover funding arrangements to allow employers to support learners that have been made redundant. This includes the new rule stating that “when employment or an apprenticeship agreement has ended (resignation, dismissal or any other action by the apprentice or the employer that results in the apprenticeship agreement ending) and new employment has commenced within 30 days we do not expect a withdrawal to be recorded.”
These rules will apply to apprenticeships starting between 1st August 2020 and 31st July 2021.

The ESFA advises that the new apprenticeship funding rules should be read alongside the COVID-19 guidance, as some of the flexibilities introduced as part of the Government’s pandemic response will continue.
