Apprenticeship Levy Reforms Announced by Government | Instructus Skills

Changes to Current Apprenticeship Funding Rules

You may be aware that changes were made in August 2018, to the current Apprenticeship Funding rules which will affect existing SASE Higher frameworks.

Learners undertaking a Level 3 or Higher Apprenticeship are now required to either hold or achieve a Level 2 or equivalent in English and Maths, and at least 20% of the apprentices working hours must be spent doing off the job training.

The Department for Education have made it clear that for funded apprentices, training providers must comply with these changes and evidence of achievement will be required.

Higher Apprenticeship learners starting 01/08/2019 will need to evidence the Level 2 English and Maths, along with the 20% off the job training.

For transferable skills, please see the following: https://acecerts.co.uk/web/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Transferable-Skills-Guidance-Document-August-2018.pdf.

Please see the below options for evidencing off the job training:

  • Statement or declaration confirming the 20% off the job training has been attained. This must be signed and dated by the apprentice and the employer/training provider.
  • A logbook that shows the training breakdown for the apprentice showing the 20% off the job training. This must be signed and dated by the apprentice and the employer/training provider.
  • A screenshot of an online portfolio showing the apprentices 20% off the job training, along with the relevant apprentice details. This must be signed and dated by the apprentice and the employer/training provider.
